"Bye mom! Bye dad! Say goodbye, Gary!"

"Meow."

Bobby would've given a big ol' wave to his parents as they turned on the engine to their old minivan, had it not been for his cat held up in his arms. Instead, he settled for awkwardly shifting, grabbing Gary's paw, and forcing the poor cat to give a tiny wave in his place. Despite how small his paw was, Mrs. Porifera still seemed to notice it, and answered by leaning out the window and blowing her only son a kiss good bye. This was it. The big move out day. Mom and Dad had been right. Their twenty eight year old son just couldn't live at home forever. It was time for their boy to spread his wings and go off on his own adventure. Bobby was thrilled about it naturally (and Mom and Dad had been so unbearably nice when they had suggested it), but emotions still ran high. Even as they started to pull away, Bobby couldn't help but notice Mom wiping the tears from her eyes as she slid back into the passenger side window. Bobby himself gave a big, unflattering sniff to keep his own tears and snot at bay. Before he knew it though, they had pulled out onto the road and were on their way back to Long Beach, leaving their son alone on the steps of the apartment building he'd now be calling home.

Bobby gave one more sniff, and then flipped an imaginary switch in his head. Right. This wasn't a sad occasion. It was a happy one! Bobby had a brand new home, a brand new job, and a brand new life to explore! He even had his best friend right there with him (although said best friend was beginning to squirm impatiently). This was going to be the best change ever! An unbridled grin suddenly split across his features, and the sun itself lit up in his eyes.

"Alright Gary! Enough moping around! We've got a brand new apartment to explore, and I think I have a brand new food bowl with your name on it!"

"Meow." The grey tabby began to purr softly in his arms, as if understanding the promise of food. Bobby let out his loud, musical laugh in response. He turned and carefully opened the door, being sure not to bump Gary (who he just had to bring down with him to say goodbye to his parents, of course). He practically skipped up the stairs to his floor, and the eagerness to get back into his new place grew and grew. Oh boy, there were still some boxes left to be unpacked, weren't there? His parents had been very helpful in helping him getting the big stuff set up (the bed, television, couch, etc...), but there were still so many little things to get put away. It'd be like Christmas morning, going through and organizing all of his worldly possessions! He couldn't wait! He was sure that Gary was going to love going through all those boxes too. He knew what the cat would be doing as soon as he got that first box emptied. Bobby also figured he should get all of his photos up on the wall to. They seemed so bare right now, as much as he loved the obnoxious orange paint that the landlord had painted them with. No, really. He loved it. It was so unique and out there that it was perfect! He also loved the nickname his father had jokingly given his new apartment because of it; the Pineapple.

Bobby had just about made it to the door of said Pineapple when a sudden sound caught his full attention. He let out a small gasp. That was the sound of another apartment's door opening, which meant neighbors! He hadn't met any of his neighbors yet! Bobby grinned in newfound excitement, and practically spun on his heels to face the new neighbor. Gary let out a small grumble and twitched his tail in irritation. So much for that new food bowl.

"Hey there!" the ginger man offered a sing-song greeting. "Looks like I'm your new neighbor! Isn't that great?! My names Robert, but everyone calls me Bobby, and this is Gary!"

"Meow."

"What's your name?"

(OOC: An open thread for anyone who wants to be Bobby's new neighbor. And if you willingly decide to do that to your character... God bless you.)

Lysias had been stabbed a few times in his life. He had the scars and the hospital bills to prove it. The most recent occurrence was like a re-visit of how he had met his two assistants. He had been walking home, minding his own business when a couple of punks had jumped him over the price hike he'd just announced. Like a couple of druggies could even make a dent in the business plan.

Unfortunately they did make quite a rip in his jacket, and his shirt and then through his skin. He had read once that there was no safe place to get stabbed - that anywhere was going to cause pretty permanent damage. Lysias wouldn't count himself a particularly lucky however his wounds and scars would say otherwise. Maybe it was because he tended to tower over people that their aim was a little off, or maybe it was because he was quick enough to realise he'd been injured rather than expecting fair play.

Whatever the reason, Lysias had been in and out of hospital over the last week getting dressing re-covered and then, finally, stitches removed. He had been staying at his little apartment - close to the bar so less journey to work and also it was only a single room so his assistants were left to fend for themselves in the other properties while he recovered in peace.

He had woken up feeling more refreshed and with enough energy that he intended to pop into work and sort out whatever disasters had been created in his absence. The shower was warm and soothing but also a stark reminder of the angry red scar that was starting to form. Drying himself off a little more carefully than normal he grabbed a comfortable suit from the closet.

As he dressed he could hear the murmurs of people outside in the corridor and then the silence that suggested they had moved their conversation outside. Smoothing out his jacket he checked his appearance in the mirror and then grabbed his keys, heading out.

Only to be stopped immediately by a cheerful sing-song voice. Lysias slowly closed the door to his apartment behind him while keeping his eyes on the elf in front of him. An elf with a fur ball. An elf who was speaking words that Lysias had to take a moment to comprehend.

You named your cat Gary? came out of his mouth before he realised it and his gaze moved from the man to the angry lint ball.

Lysias debated giving Bobby a fake name, just to see how long he could keep it up for. But he had never been very good at games and besides, he liked his name and even more so liked people knowing his name. There was power behind it, even if bobby wouldn't know it.

I'm Lysias. Pause. It's Greek. He didn't offer a nickname.

Wow, Bobby's new neighbor certainly had a presence about him. Maybe it was the suit. Yeah. It was definitely the suit. It made him look like he was someone important, and he stood like he was someone important. Neat. Some people might have been intimidated by that, but not this guy. Instead, his grin just grew bigger, even as the new neighbor questioned his peculiar taste in cat names.

"I sure did!" Bobby confirmed, completely missing the implication of the question. He looked down at the cat in his arms, who twitched his tail while his yellow eyes stared at the stranger. "The world's full of Fluffies and Smokies and Mister Kitties, but I bet there's only one Gary!" He probably wasn't wrong about that. Besides, the name just felt right at the time. The very moment Bobby first picked up the little kitten and looked him in the eye, he knew that no other name would suffice. It was like fate, if fate cared about dumb cat names.

Bobby immediately looked back up when the neighbor introduced himself and gave a small, exaggerated gasp. "Ooooh, Lysias," he echoed, feeling it on his tongue. He tried to get the pronunciation right and just sounded awkward in the process. "Sounds fancy." The fanciest name he'd heard, at least. He didn't know too many Greek names, but that sounded very Greek. The slight awed reaction might've seemed mocking from anyone else, but someone it read perfectly genuine on Bobby's face. That's probably because it was genuine, and he did actually get a kick out of perfectly tiny things like that.

"Well, it's sure nice to meet you, Lysias!" Bobby chirped. His pronunciation was still pretty clumsy, but not inaccurate. He leaned forward, but then seemed to remember something. "Oh. I was gonna shake your hand, but Gary probably wouldn't like being dropped." He laughed.

"Where you headed?" Bobby had gotten talking, and he was probably just going to keep talking. God only knew when he was going to stop when he was like this. He couldn't help it though. This was his new neighbor, and maybe even his first friend in San Diego! He wanted to know everything about him! The curiosity and eagerness rang loud and clear in his voice, and only a fool would think there was any sign of him stopping. "Lemme guess, probably out to work, I bet! Do you work around here?"

There was something about cats Lysias didn't trust. The way they had eyes that were trained to follow your every move or that they could be happy and playful one minute and then go for the jugular the next. Lysias often compared his assistant Atlas to a cat - unpredictable, judgemental and cares for himself first. Very catlike.

Lysias had a dog, Diablo, who was getting on in his years. An old bull terrier that, Lys pondered, given half the chance would chase 'Gary' until the end of his days. Diablo had long since been retired to the house rather than the apartment - he couldn't manage all the stairs and was too scared to go in the lift.

He looked at Bobby and raised an eyebrow at the attempt to pronounce the greek. He had heard worse, so he let it slide. It is fancy. He confirmed, crossing his arms over his chest as if it would give him better understanding of the man in front of him.

He leant forward and Lysias instinctively leant back slightly. He didn't get to close to people he didn't know, especially in his line of work. You never knew who would have a concealed weapon, though judging from the fact that Bobby practically forgot there was a cat in his arms, there was more chance of him shooting himself instead of Lysias.

Oh god. More questions. Lysias shouldn't have stopped, should have just nodded and walk on. He could have been rude and done that anyway - but Lysias was rarely rude. Cruel, intimidating and a general nasty piece of work? Sure. Rude. Not often.

Yes. I own Styx. It's a cocktail bar down the street. I assume you're legal to drink if your parents have left you all alone, he answered and if you listened for it there was a slight tease to his voice.

If you put... Pause.Gary...down you can come along and have a look if you like, he added and instantly regretted it. But the words were out there and the longer they stood awkwardly in the corridor the more Lysias would want to murder the new ray of sunshine just to avoid him. This was probably the better option of the two - besides, Lysias could leave the kid at the bar to get completely drunk and then just pick him up on the way home. Not even having to exchange two words.
