This hadn't exactly been what Bailey had imagined when she encouraged Bernard to take a chance on romance again when he was ready of course. Bernard had come a long way since he had finalized his divorce to Riley and it had not been easy for the man. It shouldn't have been. To be in love with someone like he had Bailey expected the road to be rough for the man. Being a father though Bernard put his children first and tried to make this knew way of life for them as easy to accept as it possibly could be. Bernard being the person he was he seemed to forget to take care of himself too. Bailey discovered this one night when she was coming by his place to drop something off and found him a terrible state. With a little push though Bernard, at least in her eyes, was better. He still thought of his children first but he was, perhaps a little by force on her part, was doing better about taking some time for himself.

So how did it all lead to tonight? Partly by her doing she supposed. The pair had gone out a few times, just to get Bernard out of his house on days where the kids were with their mother. This had been a thing for the past few months and Bailey never did more than what Bernard was ready for. It was just little things like maybe go to a movie or maybe a round of mini-golf. Fun things. Had the topic of a new romantic relationship come up? Yeah it had granted Bailey was basically the worse person to encourage Bernard to give it a shot if he so chose to considering her own history. It was when he took her advice that had startled her which may sound odd but it was because who he decided to ask out. Her. Bernard had asked her out and that had completely caught her off guard and rightfully so.

When had been the last time she had been on a real date? That was a good question. It had truly been that long. Bailey "dated" a few men but those were never meant to be really deep or lead to anything. This was different. Bernard was different and she couldn't be the flirtatious Bailey that she may be with other people. That wasn't an impossible feat. Just last year Bailey was pretending to be Vincent's girlfriend for couple days. Then why had she been so nervous when getting ready? For starters Bailey didn't want to be the reason that Bernard got put off at the idea of finding love again. No pressure there, right? Or was Bailey just putting unnecessary pressure on herself? Thankfully their outing consisted of watching a movie which could help. Murder on The Orient Express was the new release this week and Bailey had just finished reading the book. "That was such a good movie." she said as they walked out of the theatre. "Did you like?" she asked.

The evening was still early at least by Bailey's standards. "Up for getting some ice cream?"

all this while, his friends and family has been there for him. through the process of the divorce, after it, and especially when it came to looking after the kids when he had to work. being a single dad wasn't easy, as he no longer could rely on a wife to help him out. the kids were growing up fast, and they were becoming more of a handful by the day. it was difficult to juggle his life as well as them, and he had a career to look after. it was why bernie rarely thought about trying again in the dating department. his plate was so full he couldn't be bothered to look for someone to fill in the void riley had left behind. as much as he understood the importance of his children growing up with a maternal figure, bernie had been too busy to even consider it. it was bailey that had been trying to coax him to go back into it, which he had acknowledged, but did not do anything about.

one day, he had noted. bailey's constant presence in his life, her kindness, her affection...it had finally caught his attention that she was the person that he would much rather spend more time with. they had already gone out a few times, mostly to get him out of the house and to destress, but he had managed to summon up the courage to ask her out properly. of course, bernie was taking it slow, not wanting to rush headfirst into things like he had done with riley the first time. no, he didn't want to sign himself up for something shitty, and end up jeopardising his kids. however, he had to admit that he liked bailey, and was hoping for something good to come out of this. enough coaxing and pushing from bailey had led him this, and here they were now, off to watch a movie.

his eyes remained focused on the screen throughout, occasionally flickering to bailey before switching back again. once the movie was done, he walked out with her, hands in his pockets. "heh, it was," he grinned at her, nodding. he had enjoyed himself, and bailey's company was always pleasurable. "y'know i'm always up for ice-cream," chirped bernie easily. no wonder he was getting fat, never was he the sort of fella to watch his weight. "my treat," he said quickly, even if he had paid for their movie tickets. "you've been treating me non-stop these part few weeks, about time i repaid some favours."

in love with a liar
