Sometimes Kay didn’t make the smartest moves. Sometimes, well sometimes she was a little bit of a daredevil and did things she shouldn’t. Or things that would get her reprimanded. Or things that people would call just plain stupid. Sometimes she got it into her head that she was invincible. And sometimes she went after a group of dark witches that had been causing nothing but chaos and headaches for her whole department without her partner. Which was exactly how she had gotten reprimanded last time but being safe was not her strong suit. What, she was supposed to just wait for him to roll out of bed while they probably got away? No chance. She was going hunting.

She had hated school for the whole, academic aspect. She had been damn good at dueling and the more practical things, but had hated the academics and studying but she had worked her ass off to make sure that she had all of the proper N.E.W.T. qualifications and proper tests and prerequisites. She had wanted nothing more than to be an auror and had made sure that that goal would be followed through with. She even had gotten professors on her side, though they had taken one look at the stubborn Gryffindor and shaken their heads half the time, all of her favorite professors had said it was probably well suited to her temperament.

She just hadn’t expected to be asked to the Harpies. The Holyhead Harpies, that is, to be exact. She had been on the Quidditch team at school, had been pretty good if she did say so herself but she hadn’t expected that. And felt like it would be silly to pass it up, so she had stuck with it for two years before going to the aurors. Because, damn, despite how fun it was to be a beater and take things head on, she was ready to go for what she really wanted. And breezed through training.

And now she was the bane of every superior that happened to get her under them and ever partner they paired her up with. But, let’s be honest, she didn’t really want a partner.

So, well, maybe that was another reason she took the tip without alerting said partner that it had come in. It’d get back to him the same way it got to her! And then she had donned her jacket, grabbed her wand, and took off into the London night. The only issue was that now she was stalking through alleyways, having lost said dark witches after catching them in the middle of their work but someone must have fucking alerted them because they had taken off running as soon as she had even gotten close enough to see the backs of them take off.

But duels were her speciality and she’d be damned if she let the chase go cold, so she had taken off after them. And after exchanging a spell or ten they had managed to give her the slip. She still heard their laughter as she slowly crept along, sticking to the edge of the dank wall, feeling her way along, eyes adjusted to the dark so she knew the blast of spell light would alert her before it got too close. She kept her way along, quiet, low, until she heard a sound behind her. She paused, just a moment, and then kept going, keeping her ears attuned to it, waiting for it to sound again so she could whirl and blast the bastard trying to sneak up on her.

because I thought it was a good idea to make the hothead an auror

becoming an auror was one of casimiro's greatest achievements. long since he could remember he wanted to work for the department of magical law enforcement. that was once he had packed up his things at the age of nine to move across the english channel. his family had been on the run from something, or someone, so they reinvented a new life in wizarding london. unlike his parents, casimiro attended hogwarts. his younger sister, born a handful of years after him had as well. he a slytherin and she a ravenclaw. where as his sister pursued something entirely different than her ambitious brother, they both still shared their love for family and music. even after casimiro graduated from hogwarts, music still was a big part of his life. his father's guitar, brought all the way from spain, was mounted on the wall of his flat for the last fourteen years. a constant reminder for cas to keep moving forward. and maybe just maybe, he'd one day be able to find the people who murdered his parents.

it had been an accident they said. something unpredictable. it could have happened to anyone, they continued to say. cas never believed them.

dueling and academics were incredibly easy for casimiro while at hogwarts. he was quick to learn and even quicker with his wand. he passed all his NEWTs & OWLs with flying colors, proud as ever of his accomplishments. his parents, at the time were extremely proud of him too. dueling club had always been his favorite part about school and he used this skill all throughout the intensive training it took to become an auror. he had made it though, and was now twelve years into it.

you'd think by now that the head of the department would be kind enough to let cas slide when it came to partnering up...but unfortunately he had been sacked with a reckless young woman for a good six months. she was going to bloody well drive him into an early grave. he didn't need a partner and kayleigh sabre was by far the most irrepressible person he had ever met. and here he was, yet again, chasing after her with a tip she graciously avoided telling him about.

he knew it probably wasn't the smartest idea to sneak up on someone with a wand at the ready, so he announced his arrival to save from being blasted by some unforgiving spell. "it seems you've lost them," he remarked, matter-of-factly. casimiro moved around the corner to face his partner and crossed his arms. "did you know that there were six of them? were you just expecting me to show up just in the nick of time before you were out numbered?"

Stalking through the dark at night might not be everyone’s idea of fun but Kay, at the very least, found it rather entertaining and a good way to pass the time. Though, it was more because she was enjoying trying to take down a group of witches. Whom she had somehow lost in all of the gloom but that was a minor point. Should Kay have probably informed her partner that this was going on? Probably. Especially against all of the witches she had bumped into, there was at least six. But never let it be said that Kay always did the smart thing. She was too stubborn to bother. She was also too stubborn to ever admit that maybe what she had done was the wrong thing.

She heard a sound and she paused, wand at the ready, absolutely ready to take down whoever it was that was out there making noise. A simple petrification, she thought, just in case it wasn’t oe of the bad guys. She tried to learn some lessons, after all, and she was not all about getting suspended again. That had not been fun the first time, it would probably be less fun the second. She was pretty sure she was just lucky that she was actually good at this job.

A voice behind her made her whirl with a scowl, wand out, but she had recognized that voice, almost immediately, the wand was just an automatic habit. The scowl deepened and then she sighed. Of course. Of course it was her partner. Casimiro felt it was a good idea to inform her that she had lost them. She rolled her eyes but then turned her attention back the way they had gone. ”No shit, Sherlock” she grumbled absently, not really paying total attention and totally ready for an argument to come her way. There was something to do with her pent up energy at losing the damn people.

”Did you know that I could totally take six of them on my own? I figured you’d show up eventually” she informed him with a bit of a shrug. Kay would never admit she was wrong, even if all of the evidence pointed that awy. She was too stubborn for such things and liked to pretend it wasn’t the case. She would defend it to the death. Possibly literally sometime, though she was hoping to avoid that. ”Besides, I know which way they went” she insisted before starting to creep off that way carefully. What? If he had followed her here, he could follow her again, right?

she was his partner. his responsibility and vise versa. if anything happened to her, it would be on him and he'd never forgive himself. she was still his partner, regardless of the indifference they had from time to time. he cared about her. they often chastised one another. usually kay's words being more on the lines of, cas you need to live a little. he did appreciate her playful scoldings though because he knew he could be a little serious sometimes. except when he had a guitar in his hand.

this scenario was different though. the wizard profiles that were given to them were quite important. these weren't just normal wizards they had been assigned to. they were dark wizards. and chasing after dark wizards and death eaters was not a game. these folks weren't just criminals, they were murderers. cas was not a student back at hogwarts. he wasn't here to play games. people died when they were reckless out in the field. so yeah, he might have been just a little annoyed with kay this time around. he knew she was well equipped at handling herself, but among a large group of deadly wizards was just arrogant.

he could sense her equally annoyed state and simply rolled his eyes. he didn't want to start an argument and he already knew that she was on edge from the adrenaline of the chase. "no i don't think you can. you probably failed to read the fine print in the reports too. one of them needs to be brought in for questioning. the rest can be disposed of if we can catch them." he did admire her spirit as much as he didn't like to admit it to himself. she had a gift for driving him insane, yet he liked it all the same. she was lucky she was cute and he cared too much. "well then, after you mi chiquita," he smirked, waving a hand in the general direction in front of them. "remind me why i still keep you around," he joked, shaking his head amused at his own rhetorical question.

No I don’t think you can. Kay paused at those words, feeling her temper absolutely flare and peered over at him with narrowed eyes, totally not appreciating that comment in the slightest. Didn’t think he could, huh? She totally could. Dueling was her best work, thank you very much. And at least if she couldn’t, well, there was a bed reserved for her at Mungos and at least it would be entertaining to give it a try. Talk about a way to go down. Anyway, Kay didn’t usually back down once she set a course, no matter how much she probably should. And she didn’t appreciate her partner’s attitude.

One of them needs to be brought in for questioning. She rolled her eyes. ”You make it sound like I was just going to go off all wands blazing and get rid of them all” she grumbled back at him, though to be honest, she hadn’t bothered to get to that bit. That was what she had a partner for, right? Anyway, she usually didn’t bother to dispose of those she hunted down unless they really pushed her to it, she didn’t have a rep for that. Just one for utterly losing her temper if they pushed her too far and making sure she did some serious damage. Oops. She had no shame.

She also had a reputation of going through partners like nobody’s business because she pulled stuff like this. But she didn’t care. Honestly, why should she? If they couldn’t keep up than that was their problem and not hers. If they were wimps, they weren’t meant to be with her at all, though she could admit she was utterly amused that Casimiro had managed to track her down. It didn’t mean that she was going to play nice or wait for him, but it had still amused her.

She rolled her eyes at him. ”Like I was gonna wait for you” she replied, going back to stalking off after where she had last seen the witches that they were after. ”Because your life would be utterly boring and dull if you didn’t, you stick in the mud” she tossed back as she held her wand at the ready and turned around the corner to see… a shadow? A shadow. That meant people. She grinned wickedly and took off in that direction, not bothering to wait because what was the fun in that? Keep up or don’t!
