lark 'dipper' mason pines

"PINES!"

"Oh, no, wait. Or is it Pineses? Who cares?"

Three balls of dung smack into the back of your head, one after the another. Your hand instinctively rises to bat away the offending material, in a vain attempt to wipe it from your head, and you grimace at the horrid stench of manure.

Mabel stifles a giggle, unable to help but feel tickled by the situation, only to get a faceful of it as well.

"Heh." You place your bag over her face, a more valiant attempt to shield her from the smelly assaults. As disgusted as you felt, you could not help the little stab of glee that your twin sister had some manure in her hair as well. It could be worse, really. You could have another tooth knocked out. This one could be resolved with just a quick shower.

"Come on." You nudge your twin sister forward. "Let's go before we get anymore shit."

Shit was a little uncommon in terms of method used for bullying, but unfortunately, neither was it a first. You could list down the ways and methods that have been used on you over the years, through kindergarten, and through high school. You could regale tales of how you ran away from said bullies whenever you encountered them, or defeated them by defaming them. You could also tell everyone how you protected your sister from her own brand of bullying, and tell the world how painfully used it to that you were.

But you never did. And neither did Mabel.

With smiles on your faces, you hid it from the world. Your parents. The both of you hid your sufferings through confiding in each other, and displacing your frustrations elsewhere. Broken teeth and bruises were replaced with lies about walking into walls, and your sister covers up for you as well, providing an additional defensive voice to any inquiries.

It was just the Pines' twins against the world. You would never have it any other way.

"Dipper Pines! Paranormal investigator and blogger, and private detective!"

Mabel looks up from her knitting, and roars with laughter. You had 'borrowed' your father's jacket and hat, and was posing in front of the mirror with it. She tells you that you look silly, and you throw your book at her in retaliation. It was filled with notes about the obscure, the mysterious and the secretive, and conspiracy theories. Her favourite article from those notes were '10 San Diego spooky spots that you can visit without getting a faceful of shit.'

"Dipper, take those off. You look dumb."

She does not really discourage those ideas, but threw fuel into it, as well as teased you about it at the same time. She blames your uncle for it, who loves gabbling on about conspiracies, and telling the both of you ghost stories. That, you had to admit, was the pioneer of your interest in the occult, which led to you indeed exploring haunted places, and writing about them. Piles and piles of books were filled with your notes and drawings, which then led to blogging. Your odd hobbies kept you sane, and your parents giggled about them with Mabel, but you stuck to them.

Some books had been lost to bullies unfortunately, which in turn, gave you a painful lesson of never bringing them to school ever again.

Blogs were safer. You posted twice a week, informing no readers about your thoughts and findings. Even if you hadn't an audience, Mabel was always happy to read them. She would gush about it to her own circle of friends, and one reader led to another. Soon, your blog was exploding with readers, and haters alike, laughing at you for posting bullshit. You maintained an anonymous persona, but communicated regularly with your readers. Your parents, of course, were not notified of this. You had enough of silly laughter for a while.

Not even Pacifica Northwest could destroy the joy you found in the occult.

Out of all the bullies that shoved you around, noogied your head, and nearly drowned you in toilets, she was likely the worst. While she does not make it a point to harass you personally all the time, calling you names and laughing at you, it was Mabel that received the lion's share of her torment. It never fails to spark your temper whenever Mabel comes to you weepy and upset, and you wishing all the seven hells on Pacifica, ranging from hoping her heels snap to her getting hit by a truck.

_______________________________________________

Things looked up for you and your sister when the both of you finished high school. Mabel was eager to go to college, and you opened up your own private detective agency, your office of course, your room. Your parents were unhappy with you, wanting you to also go to college, but you weren't keen on continuing your education. No, you enjoyed puttering around and helping cats down from trees, or taking nasty pictures of evidence to defame someone. The more demanding the case, the more payment there was. You felt like a mercenary, doing jobs that no official detective would want to do. Dirty as they could get, you were willing to do it, all in the name of justice, and of course making ends meet.

Sponsors for your blog also helped, with occasionally putting out a post for a product, be it for hair or technology. Mabel has suggested that you venture into video making, filming your paranormal adventures, and simply talking. You told her that you would think about it, and sniggered at her stressing out at assignments. You've also noticed how happier she was now that she was in college, and you couldn't help but be happy too.

You most certainly do not miss being assaulted. Or having your teeth interestingly removed. Or walking home trying to think up a new story for your parents. You do not look back on those fondly, grimly if anything. Instead, you look forward, mirroring your twin sister's smile, and wearing the new sweater that she has personally knitted for you. You grace her with your new cases, be they paranormal or detective work to entertain her, and she swallows all the information up with love. She calls you silly and dumb, but gives you a hug by the end of it all, telling you that she loves you, and will always support you.

She is your best friend, and your sister. You wouldn't have anyone else.

You tell her that you love her too, and

"You're the best sister ever."

Sorry for the wait on this one, dear. Lark here was fun one to read and how much he loves what he does. I especially love reading about his relationship with his sister and strong their bond was. The fact that she'd call him silly but still supportive him is heartwarming to watch. I'm curious to see how his relationship with Pacifica will continue as well when his sister comes around!

Congrats and don't forget your claims!
