It was getting deeper into the semester and Levi knew what that meant for October - stress. Levi didn’t want her to sit there and be stressed out over everything. She needed to have a bit of fun, or at least a few moments where she could relax and not worry about it. So, he was going to try and do that.

Heading to the school, he carefully snuck into her class, trying to do so without her noticing (but he was pretty certain that he had failed to do so). Levi tried to listen, but he had no idea what she was talking about. All of it seemed so over his head, but he tried. Maybe he would pick up something that would make a little more sense when they talked. Maybe he wouldn’t need the explanation for some things.

Class was over and the students started to filter out. Levi headed up to the front of the class with a smile on his face. ”Surprise!” He said with his arms outstretched. ”Did you see me come in?” Levi hoped that she didn’t, but if she did, he’d just make sure that he was more careful next time. ”I thought that we could go get something to eat and relax for a little bit! We could go to Dave n Busters and play some games!” There were some games in there that Levi wa certain were begging for a new high score. He wasn’t sure that he could do it, but he was ready to try!

When October awoke that morning, she could feel the weight of her eyelids and the general exhaustion in her body. The semester was halfway over, which meant that final exams were quickly approaching. It seemed like the midterms happened merely a week ago. People forgot how stressful university was for students and professors alike. While the students did have multiple assignments and tests from a number of classes, the professor had to grade exams and essays for hundreds of students. October taught multiple courses at different levels in the psychology department so depending on what level the class was meant the workload would either be small for a beginner class or large for her students majoring in psychology.

On her way to class, October picked up two cups of coffee. That's how badly she needed the caffeine. She wasn't an extreme early bird so she didn't teach any 8AM classes but she found herself feeling more tired than usual that day which meant she would need the extra cup of coffee for help. Her first class of the day was an 11:30 AM introductory course. More of her intro classes were in the mid-morning since that's when most freshmen and sophomores scheduled their classes. October was sitting at her desk, sorting through her papers as students began to file in. It was a pretty large lecture hall so she didn't bother trying to greet every student that walked in. Many of them looked as tired as she did.

As the clock struck 11:30, October arose from her desk and began to write the chapter title on the chalkboard, reviewing the reading material from the prior week and answering any questions they had. The class went by pretty quickly - she had to stop a few times to define key vocabulary terms but this class actually did the reading so they were able to end a few minutes early. October reminded them of the online exam due at the end of the week and began to compile all of the papers on her desk. October could see a body approaching her and when she stood up, she was surprised to see who had shown up.

"Levi? What are you doing here?" she asked. October graciously accepted the hug and leaned against her desk. "No, I didn't. This is such a nice surprise though." She had grown fond of Levi, he was such a sweetie. He asked her about going out to eat for lunch and spending some time relaxing and having fun. It sounded like such a wonderful and well needed idea. "Absolutely, that sounds like a lot of fun! Let me just grab my work and we can go," she said.

”Surprising you!” Levi chimed with a little giggled as he wrapped his arms around her. The man was thrilled that she didn’t see him come in. HIs little plan had been a success and that left him with a wide bright grin as his eyes seemed to light up. They lit up even more as she agreed to go to lunch with him. ”Don’t grab too much!” He exclaimed as he followed her to grab everything.

The man was so excited that his plan was a success he nearly forgot to ask October where she wanted to eat. Or rather, ask if she wanted to eat at one specific place. ”Do you want to eat at my favorite restaurant?” Truth be told, it probably wasn’t his favorite one, but today it was because it had the food he was craving the most. ”They have the best cheesey fries!” The fries were coated in cheese. It was stringy and warm. The different types cheese created a beautiful flavor in his mouth. The best, October.” Levi emphasized, hoping that it would convince her.

”How’s the teaching going?” He questioned as he continued to look around. ”Making sure the kids learn a lot?”

October accepted Levi's hug and nearly let her whole body lean on the taller man. She felt so tired all of a sudden but she could feel the tension in her shoulders begin to leave her when Levi put his arms around her. He was so soft and warm - October would need to start hugging him more often, he was like a little stress ball for her. She chuckled at his comment and shook her head. She was a university professor - her workload was way heavier than a normal person's. She was surprised that her back hasn't given out with how heavy her bags could get. October collected all of her papers and folders and stacked them into one pile, tapping the bottom against the desk to straighten it out before putting it in her messenger bag. Today's class had mostly been review so she didn't need to bring in a ton of worksheets or essays to grade.

She looked up at Levi with interest and nodded her head. She wasn't particularly in the mood for anything specific to eat so whatever Levi wanted to eat was fine with her. Truthfully she just needed to get some food in her body because this coffee was beginning to hit her and make her heart beat just a little faster. Caffeine would usually hit her hard if she drank it on an empty stomach. He began to persuade her with cheese fries and October's mouth nearly watered on the spot at the thought of nice, hot fries. "That sounds amazing, let's do it," she said. October slung the messenger bag over her shoulder and walked out of the lecture hall with Levi.

A dry laugh escaped October's lips as she pinched the bridge of her nose. How was teaching going? Well she fell in love with one of her "students" and it turned into a huge shitshow and now she was feeling the emotional trauma of it all. October put on a smiling face and looked at Levi. "It's going well but it's so tiring - especially when it's close to exam week. Everyone is stressed out and I get so irritated at the smallest things," she said. "I love my students but some of them are so...." she paused to take in a deep breath. "It's the ones who are failing and ask me for extra credit a week or two before grades are due and it's like... did you really think that would work? It's so infuriating," she said. "Sorry to vent. The end of the semester is getting to me."

HEARTLINES

”They ask for extra credit that late?” Levi was a little shocked. Not super shocked as he remembered seeing that when he was in school, but it still baffled him to see students hoping for extra credit to bring their grades up. ”Are they rude about it?” He hoped that they weren’t. That would only make matters worse! Everyone couldn’t take out their stress on one person at the end of the semester.

”Maybe you should have a fun day!” He was so proud and excited about this idea he was about to share. ”Just make it a giant fun review game or something! You know Jeopardy or whatever other games you could play. There are more right?” Levi was sure that there was something. Maybe they could even act things out. ”Maybe it would help everyone’s stress levels and it wouldn’t be so bad!”

In the restaurant, Levi nearly started drooling at the smell of everything. ”Doesn’t this smell great?” He inhaled deeply and quickly scanned over the menu, making sure to order cheesy fries when the waiter came around to take their order. ”What’s new with you?” He questioned, trying to keep himself distracted from how hungry he was.

Hearing his question made October shut her eyes for a few seconds and take in a deep breath. She exhaled longer than she needed to, as if to emphasis her point. "Yes. Yes they do, Levi. And it drives me... mad," she said. October pinched the bridge of her nose and almost wanted to throw all of her belongings into the air. She wasn't usually so frazzled or easily bothered but when it came to the end of the semester, everyone was on edge - professors and students alike. At his next question, October pursed her lips and tilted her hand up and down. "Yes and no. Some of them can be rude about it. Like, they spam me with emails and threaten to go to the Dean or take it to court - as if those threats would actually work in their favor. Some just get really desperate and try to pull sob stories on me, which also don't work," she said. "I only offer extra credit this late to students who I know need it and actually deserve it. And even that is a rarity." October was able to count on one hand all the times she's given extra credit near the end of the semester to boost grades and those were very dire circumstances where the student actually needed and deserved it. The ones begging her now were just lazy and never did the work.

October gave Levi a warm smile and shrugged her shoulders. "I would love to have a fun day but with how many classes I teach, it'd be hard to plan one that would work for each class." His idea did sound fun and it honestly could work. Review games were a big hit during secondary school and actually seemed to help students do better on the tests. Maybe she could have a base game planned out and then tweak it so that all the curriculum would go to the right class. "That's actually a really good idea, Levi. I might just consider it. Would you like to help me plan it out? We could try Jeopardy or Popcorn," she said. University students were still kids at heart so October knew something like a review game would go over well with her students. It might help out everyone's stress levels so she'd need to gift Levi something nice for giving her such a great idea.

All the talk surrounding work and school made her forget just how hungry she really was. The smell of food hit them as soon as they walked in and October could hear her stomach growling. It felt like she hadn't eaten in days. October nodded in response to his question as they were seated down. She looked over the menu and it took a lot of willpower not to just order everything from the page. She ended up ordering some cheesey fries at Levi's suggestion as well as some chicken strips and a vanilla milkshake. Today, she was going to treat herself. Hearing his question made October slouch in her seat and look off to the side. "A lot... I'm not sure how much Kass has told you, if she has at all. Does the name Sienna mean anything to you?" October was ready to vent about the Sienna situation to anybody who would listen.
