when the phone rang sophia almost let it go straight to voicemail. just getting up to get the phone seemed impossible. then she remembered that it could be attina or someone else from the company. now that she was so close tate popping out soph had started to slow down at work. still, if someone needed her she was going to get up and answer that phone. she barely even looked at the number on the screen before she hit the answer button too happy that she even made those few steps to the table.
next time she was going to check the phone thoroughly. the area code should have tipped her that this person wasn't from california. no they were from washington stating that they had finally found the body of her father. the voice wasn't one she knew meaning that her step-mother didn't even have it in her to admit that the man she was once married to was officially dead. she hugged her bulging stomach as she ended the phone call. finally the news that she had expected for years was true. the man who had once run away from her was actually dead.
all she could do was stand in a daze staring at the wall in front of her. how was she going to tell lydia? her sister had never met their father before he left. heck, she had been even younger than tate then when their dad had run away. lydia was already a loose canon hopefully, she wouldn't follow his example and run once more. even when holding herself sophia didn't notice the pain too much in shock from the news. wetness rushing down her leg and covering her feet finally drew her out of the blackness of her mind. that wasn't good. that meant only one thing.
"roman!" sophia yelled. their house was small enough that he should be able to hear her when she called this loudly. still she shouted for him again. he was going to need to get here right this minute. leaning against the table soph let the furniture keep her up. now that she knew what was going on sophia could feel the contractions that were picking up their pace. only when she saw his face did sophia move one hand to hold it out to him. "i need you to take me to the hospital right now." taking a deep breathe sophia tried to ignore the pain. "i swear this isn't an apirl fools joke. i am actually in labor."
