Her hairdresser had assured her that it looked good. Her hair that was. As she had been for the past year that Aya had been going to her to get her hair done. She longed for color and so she wanted to dye her hair in rainbows, once a month or maybe less sometimes, to try and echo that. Even if she couldn’t see the effect in the mirror, she wanted it, so fiercely. And her hair dresser had long ago found her soulmate, so she could see what it was that Aya couldn’t.

Also, she liked that it made others think that she could indeed see the beautiful shades in her hair, the shifting rainbows. It was good in her line of business, for others to think she knw more than she did, and even if that was just a knowledge of colors, it was still a bit more than others, and that was an advantage that she would take.

Absently she tugged at the strands that hung in her face. Yellow and pink with some orange to help the shading in between, she had been told. The words had no meaning to her and that frustrated her, and her need to know all, as much as just plain not being able to see it did. Some might think her silly for longing for what she had never had anyway, but Aya had always been that way, since the first of it. She had always wanted more than she had. It was what had driven her to where she was in life now, after all.

She had thought that she had had a shot at it once. So what that the colors hadn’t appeared right away, sometimes it was delayed…wasn’t it? She had clung to that thought, and wished the colors upon herself and her frustrating fascination with the man who had saved her from the streets. She had always hoped. Maybe the next day, or the next, or the next. But now that was far out of her reach and she… oh she felt like she had lost her shot at it, her one and only chance. She groaned and laid her head flat on the table. She sounded lik e a whiney little girl but at least it was in the sanctity of her own head where no one else could hear.

She had nearly spilled her coffee with her dramatic move but whatever, she had missed and now she lifted her head to sip at it. She was waiting for a meeting at this café and had no problems waiting. Mostly because she was just going to bemoan her fate because she got this way every time that she dyed her hair a new color or wild shade that she couldn’t see but trusted another to do right by her. She had no other choice. It wasn’t like she could do it herself.

Some might say she should stop, but maybe she was a bit stubborn. She sighed and scanned the sidewalk, trying to see if she saw the person that she was waiting for and hoping that maybe she’d see a bit of color along the way too.

Thus It Begins
"Thanks for the coffee." she yelled before skipping out of the apartment. That wasn't an odd thing for Jaime. Waltzing out of apartments that weren't her own. Some weeks it seemed like she was in the homes of others more than she was in her own. It was fine. It meant she was having fun. So after zipping up the her dress and boots Jaime took her leave of the most recent place she had stayed at and was on her way. In the cab Jaime soothed out the wrinkles of her black dress. The only color she had ever really known and Jaime had been fine with that. While others were so eager to find their soulmate she on the other hand was content with her current situation. Would it be nice to see all that color? Perhaps but at this point she had accepted already to the point it made little difference in her life. At this point what was she missing on?

Instead of crying over the fact that Jaime still lived in a world of black and white the brunette made her way over to one of her favorite cafes. She didn't stop at home yet since she figured her outfit was appropriate enough that to be seen in public. Plus she had her coat on which covered most of it anyways. As an added bonus her apartment was a little over a block away so it wasn't as if she'd be away from home much long. Jaime walked into the cafe and straight to the counter. She handed over her money and waited for her order. Moving to the side Jaime had barely started to turn when suddenly the color blasted Jaime without warning. One second her world was filled with the blacks and grays then the next she was looking at hues she had never dreamed of. Every line of color sprouting from a single point. The woman with the rainbow hair. Jaime sighed. Why? Why did it have to happen? She never asked for it? Had been completely okay with the way things were.

Maybe she should just walk out. Grab her food and step out of the cafe before anyone noticed? The thing keeping her from doing just that was the ounce of curiosity that seeped into her head. Letting out another sighed Jaime pulled herself together and walked towards the other woman with a confident beat to hers step. Jaime sat in front of the woman, situating herself without permission. "So, what are you having?" she asked, settling into the sitting. "I'm Jaime. Interesting hair color. Not something many can pull off but you do quite nicely. " Jaime gave the woman a look over. She was attractive. Jaime could see herself hitting on the woman. The whole soulmate thing was a bit of a drag but Jaime could be getting ahead of herself.

Sometimes Aya wondered if she wanted the love or if she wanted the color. Maybe it was a bit of both. Aya was the sort that wanted it all and not being able to have something? That drove her nuts. Plus, it’d be nice to know there was someone out there she was supposedly meant for. That could be interesting. SO maybe it was a bit of both. That sounded the most likely to her. Hm. She wasn’t sure but whatever. Either way, it would be nice to finally see what those who saw color saw. TO have an extra edge in her deals because she could see the color.

That would be pretty damn cool.

She took a sip of her drink and then blinked when she realized that it was pretty damn cool indeed. Coming off of one woman who had just gotten her coffee, she was starting to see color. Huh. She hadn’t thought it would be a woman in the end but Aya was not opposed to it, she was open that way. She grinned a tiny bit, okay, well this was good. The wind blew her hair in her face and she blinked at it. She was going to have to start paying her hair stylist more, because she had done a damn good job. And now she was a bit fascinated by it.

She took a sip of her coffee and looked over the other woman as she came near. Pretty, to be sure, so why not. She’d always take a shot at why not as long as it meant she had an edge. It made her snort to see the other woman just sit down. ”I was meeting someone” she couldn’t help but say, because she was Aya. Okay, so she’d definitely rather see if she was a match with this woman but she… was Aya.

”Coffee and muffin. You?” she said, arching a brow. Okay, why not. She wasn’t sure why she was being asked but that was a common question to ask when a person was at a café, that was true. She was close to grinning but it came out a smirk instead. ”I’m just learning I can pull it off myself. Yours isn’t so bad either” she said, tossing back at her with ease. Jaime. Nice name. ”Ayasha, but most call me Aya” she offered, nickname right away. Well, the woman had helped her see color, it seemed appropriate.

This was not how she had intended her day to go but oh well now. Jaime would managed as she always did. Besides this could be fun. A woman. A pretty woman was the cause of the newfound color in her world and that hadn't been expected in Jaime's eyes. Granted Jaime had sort of hoped that she wouldn't have to do deal with this sort of the thing in the first place. Far to messy. Sure Jaime had seen it work out but she had also seen it cause problem for the unexpecting. Normally Jaime was no stranger to drama but it was because she was purposely causing it not being one to have it sprung upon her as it just was.

Jaime smirk. "I'm better company." she replied confidently. Jaime had no idea who the woman was going to be meeting but in Jaime's mind there was no doubt her company was better. That was the woman's confidence and cockiness coming through. For all she knew Aya here was waiting on a boyfriend or something and yet it didn't matter to the brunette. She claimed the seat and at this point it would take Aya telling her to leave for Jaime to actually walk off. That is if Jaime didn't get bored first.

"Hot chocolate and bagel." she replied. As if on cue a mug was placed in front of her and smelled delicious. "Thanks. Thankfully my 'next day' hair still looks pretty good." she bragged. Jaime had combed it out a bit before leaving her hookup's place but otherwise Jaime would say that it still looked pretty good considering it hasn't been properly combed out. "Ayasha. Not a name you hear very often.", if at all really. Jaime couldn't recall ever hearing that name before. "Unique. Very fitting." That was Jaime giving a compliment. "So, who were you waiting on? Boyfriend? Girlfriend?" she asked, not wanting to show any judgement. Jaime was just trying to get a feel for the woman and see what Aya's current situation was. Get to know her apparent soulmate.

Not everyone decided to start off their day by meeting their soulmate. In Aya's case, she hadn't decided it at all. Oh, she had been longing to see the color but she wasn't totally sure how she felt about what went along with it. But in true Aya fashion, she had decided so far to just roll with it and see what happened as time went on. What was the harm in talking to the woman who let her see how fabulous her hair looked, after all? She grinned a bit and settled back in her chair, crossing her leg over the opposite knee and taking another sip of her coffee. This was so not how she expected her day to go. But at least it seemed like the person she was meeting had stood her up.

She'd handle that tomorrow.

Aya snorted at the other woman's answer, almost a full laugh, and then shook her head. "Cocky" she answered, being totally not opposed to it. Aya seemed to always end up with the cocky ones, it was absolutely her type. She liked someone who had the confidence to back up their attitude or looks. It was boring to constantly have to build up someone else. Who wanted to deal with that every single damn day? Not Aya. So obviously it was her type. Doubly obvious that it was her type if this woman was her soulmate. IT made her want to cackle but she was going to keep it to herself for now. Time enough to be an oddball if this became a thing.

She shared what she had ordered and then arched a brow slightly. "Not a coffee drinker" she asked, curiously. She wasn't addicted to the caffiene herself but sometimes she needed the boost with her bizarre schedule. She would sometimes end up for nights on end doing some sort of work, and needed the boost to keep her moving. She also was curious, she was allowed to be, considering the circumstances right? She thought so. Next day hair? Then she did snicker. Okay, that was pretty good. "Yeah, pretty put together for the morning after" she agreed, leaning back and totally unbothered by that information. Aya herself was lucky that she wasn't rocking morning after hair. Or perhaps not lucky, but just happenstance. She knew she had a business meeting this morning.

Or not, as the case may be.

She grinned at the compliment. "Thanks. I agree completely, It suits me" she agreed with an arch of a brow. Most people probably wouldn't accept a compliment at their own name but Aya had picked hers out when she had run away. It was all credit to her except for her middle name, kept from her former first name. She had picked it with meaning too, Little Rainbow Bird indeed. So she could take the compliment and, in true selfish nature, had no need to toss it back. Though she was a fan of the name, to be honest. Didn't mean she'd say it. She was a brat.

Boyfriend or girlfriend? She shook her head. None of that on her count. "Not that it wouldn't usually be but, no. This time it was a business partner. You just grabbing a pick me up?" she asked, curious, though did that really fit when she had just gotten a hot chocolate instead of something that was going to give her a caffiene fix? She wasn't sure. She wasn't the sort to get that, so she was honestly a tiny bit curious. Understandably, right?

"I like to say confident." Jaime countered. She couldn't deny that she could come off very cocky. It was in her nature but Jaime would prefer to say that she exuded confidence more than anything. Nothing wrong with a confident woman after all. Every woman should feel confident in themselves. It helped weed out the people that were a waste of her time if they couldn't handle her. Her looks was just one of her tools that Jaime could use and if her suspicions were were right then the rainbow haired woman was someone that could understand and relate. Good. Jaime didn't have the time to deal with apparent soulmate to be a sniveling fool. It was harsh but Jaime would quickly get bored with such a person.

"I have my fair share. I'm just more of a chocolate kind of girl." she replied. Jaime had her coffee here and there. Caffeine just wasn't a necessity in her life. Chocolate was the sweeter delicacy that Jaime perform to have. That is if she wasn't drinking some alcohol. Alcohol would probably high on the list but it was a little early, wasn't it? Plus she should probably get home with a moderately clear head. There was also the fact that she probably wouldn't be wanting to go through this whole thing right now with a clouded mind. First impressions after all. "What can I say? I'm just naturally blessed." She had to be to be able to maintain such a look this early in the morning without putting too much effort. Jaime hadn't exactly woken up in her room. Her belongings weren't waiting for her on the vanity.

And then Ayasha gave a bit of her own confidence when she accepted Jaime's compliment. It made her chuckle. Jaime nodded her head. "I was. My apartment is just around the corner so I figured I'd stop by and pick up breakfast before heading home" the fortune of having a place like this nearby. "So how much longer are you supposed to be waiting for your business partner?" she asked.

She’d like to say confident. The comment made her laugh. She leaned back in her chair, stretching her legs out before her and crossing them at the ankles. Amused. Definitely amused. ”Who says a person can’t be both?” she asked, tilting her head slightly. She liked to consider herself both with no shame, after all. She could get behind another person thinking the same. Well, at least the universe hadn’t totally screwed up here. That was a bonus for the universe, or something like that. She picked absently at her muffin, popping little crumbs into her mouth as she thought about it.

More of a chocolate kind of girl, huh? She could get behind that. Usually she was herself. She tried to rarely rely on caffeine unless needed. It meant she relied on something. The only thing she would admit to needing was her lime green gum, often popped and cracked when she wasn’t eating or drinking. She couldn’t afford needing anything else, it wasn’t good in her line of work. She nodded. ”Good to know” she murmured, storing it away. Aya liked info. And info on the person who made her finally see what her hair looked like was damn good to have.

Aya snorted at the next answer, very amused by this person before her. By Jaime. ”Cocky” she said again, teasing perhaps, but Aya liked to poke at people. It was practically her job… oh wait, it was. She grinned and shrugged. Well, it was true, she did look totally put together for a morning after run. Aya herself tended not to care, hair wound up in a bun and makeup carelessly fixed to the point of being acceptable and no more. Why should she care? The look tended to ask this of anyone looking at her strange. It worked well enough for her.

Boyfriend or girlfriend? Well Aya liked to keep her fair share of flings but she had to admit that it was nothing of the sort for her today. She was too busy waiting for a stupid business partner that was supposed to show up fifteen minutes ago when she herself had first showed up fashionably late. Maybe it was later now. Either way, well fuck, said business partner was absolutely late. So she grinned at the question. ”If they’re already making me wait this long, they obviously don’t respect me. So not waiting any more” she said, shrugging one shoulder and gesturing to the seat across from her, offering it to Jaime.

”Feel free, unless you’d rather get back to your place” she said, equally as blasé as she had said the first bit. She would like it if she did, it was interesting, this conversation. But if she chose not to, well fuck, Aya was a free spirit. The idea of tying anyone else down when she avoided such things, even just tying someone donw to a conversation, wasn’t her idea of a social life. Work was different. Social life, she was a little bird thank you very much.

Both, huh? The comment made her smile. "Touché" Ayasha had a point. No one said she couldn't be both confident and cocky all wrapped up into a nice pretty bow. Half the time most people had trouble deciding on which one Jaime actually fell on because of how she carried herself. In truth she dipped into both quite eloquently. She was cocky because she was confident and didn't take for others trying to bring her down from up on high. Jaime would rather people rise to her and with every passing moment spent with the pretty girl with rainbow hair it was becoming rather clear with Ayasha could stand. Made this all the more interesting.

Jaime couldn't help the chuckle that fell from her lips when Ayasha called her cocky again. The raven haired woman found it amusing. Would that be a running theme now in their...now she was getting ahead of herself. There was no relationship. It was just two pretty women talking to each other. It just so happened that the wonderful world of color seemed to spring upon them the moment they looked at each other. A voice in the back of Jaime's head started wondering if there could have been some mistake. Not that she didn't find Ayasha appealing but it had more to do with the fact that Jaime didn't want to be tied down to anyone. She was far too busy enjoying life to really have to take another person's feelings into considerate although from what she's seen thus it may not necessarily be a huge problem. For now.

"That truly is a crime. So hard to find reliable people nowadays." she mused. Jaime wasn't the most punctual person in the world but even she had some decency to not show up inexcusably late, especially when someone as attractive as Ayasha would be waiting for them. "Forgive my curiosity but what kind of business do you do?" she asked. Ayasha wasn't dressed in any sort of business suit professional type of way and while there was likely countless jobs that could allow for business meetings to take place in coffee shops like this none were necessarily coming to mind. "I do respect a woman that can take care of her own business. I run a bar and I have gotten one too many looks when, mostly men, when they hear it." she admitted. Jaime was very proud of her establishment and yet she had gotten odd looks and surprised comments when patrons learned she was the bar owner.

"I should actually. I have a bottle of red wine waiting for me. Care to join me?" she asked, unashamed of her forwardness. No one ever got anything by being shy and quiet.

Aya grinned widely when the response to her poking at Jaime was that the other woman chuckled. Good. Anyone that just got annoyed when Aya did her poking and prodding wasn’t going to survive long around her. Even if they didn’t get into anything more serious than this one meeting and another, or whatever, it was good to know. And Aya was already entirely balking at the idea of a serious relationship. She wasn’t built that way. She had never really settled down with just one person. It wasn’t in her to do something that entirely boring. But, in case, it was still good to know and she filed the information away just in case she was going to need it for a later date.

Ayasha nodded in agreement when Jaime said that it was so hard to find reliable people these days. In deed it was. And if they couldn’t be bothered to show up on time, than she couldn’t be bothered to actually wait for them any longer. That was a lack of respect and it was the sort of thing that she couldn’t abide by, not in her line of work. It was all about power plays and respect. And she didn’t appreciate someone trying to play her.

What did she do? She grinned widely. ”I have a few jobs but this particular one is for my freelance gig” she said with a straight face without missing a beat. That was one of her favorite lies, she could tell it without breaking a sweat. And it wasn’t entirely false either. Ashe didn’t care what it was that this woman could be to her, if she made her see in colors, whatever. That didn’t mean she was going to give away all of her trade secrets just because of that. Knowledge was power and she was a moment from asking what Jaime did but then it was answered for her.

She arched a brow, impressed. ”A bar. Hot,” she said, grinning a bit and then shook her head. ”You’d think that we were back in the dark ages or something” she said with a shake of her head. It was amazing to her how still men could be when it came to a woman opening and running a business in a male dominated field. It was total bullshit and they needed to get their heads out of their asses. I could be just as bad in her own world.

At the invitation, Ayasha ate the last of her muffin and brushed any crumbs off her table, before standing with a last stretch and plucking up her drink. ”Lead the way” she said, with a sense of interest to see what could happen here. Hey, what was the harm? At the very least, she was having fun. And that was where she was going to leave it for now, to be truthful. It didn’t seem like Jaime was rushing to do things more seriously either. That worked just fine for her.

Freelance? Well that could mean anything. Did she do writing or making artwork? There were different fields that had freelancers but Jamie wasn't quite sure where she saw her new friend here fitting into. Her curiosity pushed for her to ask but was that stepping over the unseen line of what was appropriate to ask a stranger even if that person was supposedly her soulmate? Then again playing it safe wasn't all that fun either. "And what kind of freelancer are you? A writer?" One day that curiosity of hers would likely land her in some trouble but today so be it. It wasn't as if asking would guarantee Jamie an answer. Ayasha had every right to keep such tidbits to herself.

Jamie smirked, "Thank you." Jamie very much enjoyed being the woman in charge of her own establishment. She had worked under others before, some instances being better than others. It had always been her intention though to run her own place where she was the boss not having to worry about someone else bossing her around or thinking they could take advantage of her just because she was the underling. Jamie didn't do that but she had dealt with a handful of people, normally men, surprised that they were talking to the owner rather than just another employee. She chuckled at Ayasha's comment and nodded in agreement. "I've had more times than I care to admit men flirting with me thinking that it would get them free drinks." It was rather sad really. Most of the time the aroma of alcohol would be reeking off them when they think themselves capable of still holding a conversation.

Jamie made the offer and it was up to the other woman to take Jamie up on it. The loft that Jamie resided in was a small walk around the corner which was why she loved this particular cafe. It was near enough that Jamie could make quick trips when she had a craving for something. Ayasha wouldn't be the first stranger to be brought to her home and while perhaps Jamie shouldn't do such things she wanted to take this little encounter elsewhere a little more private. She was pretty certain she didn't have to worry about Ayasha suddenly attacking her or anything. Then again one truly never knew. "Do you live around here?" Jamie asked, making conversation on their little walk. Jamie had never seen the woman around these parts of course that should be a given considering this whole soulmate situation hadn't occurred until now.

Aya snorted when Jaime pushed her a bit, when she questioned what she had said and asked for clarity. Well that was interesting at least. Good. Aya did so hate to be bored at any point in time. It wasn’t really her cup of tea, you get that? She supposed that her supposed soulmate would be able to do stuff like that, though, push the line a little bit and not bore her. The universe had to at least pretend to know what it was doing sometimes, right? She supposed so. She grinned a little and shook her head. Whatever. She had a good lie that came next anyway, another that she could tell just as easily. ”Nah, writing isn’t my style. What I do is more… I’m an intermediary between two businesses when they’re making a deal” What? It wasn’t totally a lie either. Always fun to walk that line.

”So welcome” she smirked, leaning back a bit. Aya had debated being her own boss a time or two, it just didn’t always come through. Sometimes she got a little distracted by her current business dealings, was all. What was the harm in that? Well, besides keeping her where she was right now. Oh well. She was entertained, and she was doubly entertained right now. She rolled her eyes at the next statement though. ”Don’t they know they need to earn that by being at least a little bit entertaining and original?” she asked, and immediately fell into a little grin. She couldn’t help it.

She hated the fact that some people liked to power play like that, thinking they could manipulate people that way. It was partically because other people sucked at that and that bothered her. It was also partially because she knew all too well how that felt. But that was too sappy to dwell on and she pushed it away.

Aya shoved the hand not holding her drink into her pocket and walked alongside Jamie. She grinned a bit. Oh yes, this, the exchanging of information. She supposed if Jaime was showing her her place, it wasn’t going to kill her to give away a little bit of information and give away where she came from. She shrugged one shouldered. ”Other side of town, but this side is more entertaining, obviously, if it has good company” she said, grining wickedly. She glanced around, taking in the place around her, taking in the colors that she now got to see. And in the process caught sight of her hair which just made her grin wider. Oh good, it did look as good as she had been promised.
