It was odd how comfortable she felt seated in the leather chair, poised and ready for the sting of needles to mar her skin. She was nervous, that much was fact, but it was to be expected for someone's first tattoo experience. But she knew her nerves were little in comparison to Declan's. She could see his hands shaking and it tugged at her heart, making her fingers twitch in desire to wrap her hand around his. With his mentor hovering nearby though, Rose didn't want to overstep boundaries and so she let her faith in him express through her smile.
When he directed his question at her, she nodded in resolve. Ever since he told her how far he's come in his apprenticeship, she's felt nothing but support for his endeavors. She wanted to help him take his first step into his desired career. Though her parents weren't too thrilled that she wanted to mark her fair skin, it was her decision to make. In retrospect, it was actually her first independent decision against them in favor of her own desires. It felt liberating and one step closer to being the girl she once was before the incident that left her crippled. He asked her if she was ready and certain of her choice in design. Her attention focused on the small rose design he pointed out that she had chosen, an affectionate smile tugging her lips up.
"Yes, I'm sure," she spoke without hesitation. The rose was small, beautiful and romantic. It felt a little silly tattooing a symbol of her name on her, but it was so much more than that. A rose was symbolic of love. She was named after the flower and loved unconditionally by her parents, even in her darkest of times. And now, her own love for the man in front of her revolved around the same flower. He too helped her bloom into who she was now after having been desolate for so long...
After her confirmation, she lay back and turned her head for him to have easy access. She pulled her hair out of the way to drape over one shoulder, wanting him to be as unobstructed as possible. His gentle words of instruction and explanation calmed her just as much as his touch did. She would hum her agreement here and there, but overall she remained silent only until he leaned close to whisper that she could squeeze his knee if it hurt too much. Her heart swelled with affection at how much care he was showing her; it made any remaining nerves seem to dissipate. "I will, don't worry. You're going to be great," she whispered reassuringly, letting her hand rest on his knee out of the way.
Then the silence was replaced by the buzzing of the tattoo gun as the needle stained skin. The sting startled her, but it paled in comparison to how she had envisioned it in her mind. The tattoo was small so it wouldn't take long to complete and so she let her eyes shut as made all attempts not to fidget. Only once did she squeeze his knee softly when the sting near her ear felt a little stronger and he slowed down just a little to where it was bearable. It was over shortly thereafter and though her neck throbbed painfully, she felt euphoric. He bandaged it and instructed her what to do afterwards before walking her out to the door.
Her smile had yet to disappear since they finished and it widened as he drew her into his arms. She wrapped hers around him in return, pressing her cheek against the rhythm of his heart. "No, thank you," she sighed, feeling relieved and at peace that she volunteered for this. Rose pulled back to raise on her toes and press a soft kiss to his lips. "You did great. I'll talk to you later, okay? I love you."
And with that parting, she went out on her own way, feeling more like herself than she has in months.
